Memo Text

The Arkansas Department of Education Office of Educator Effectiveness and the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators (AAEA) continue a partnership to host Beginning Administrator (BA) Induction Training and Mentor Training in conjunction with AAEA summer and fall conferences.

The Office of Educator Effectiveness will host the 2015-2016 Beginning Administrator (BA) Induction Training during the AAEA Summer Conference, August 3-5, 2015, at the Little Rock Marriott Hotel and Statehouse Plaza Convention Center (3 Statehouse Plaza). Induction Training will be held from 8:30 am until 3:00 pm on August 3. The AAEA conference will begin at 3:30 pm on August 3.

All BAs who are building level administrators or curriculum program administrators who have not previously been mentored are required to attend an Induction Training.

All administrator mentors actively mentoring a BA during the 2015-2016 school year, who were not trained in 2013 or 2014, are required to attend a mentor training. A mentor training will be offered in conjunction with the August 3 BA Induction Training from 8:30 am until 1:30 pm.

Any mentor who will be mentoring a BA during the 2015-2016 school year, who DID attend a mentor training in 2013 or 2014, is encouraged to view the BA and Mentor video update on the ADE Beginning Administrator webpage at:

The video update will be available beginning June 1, 2015.

Conference Sessions

There will be conference sessions (including general sessions) aligned with the Leader Excellence and Develop System (LEADS) standards and functions. Specific sessions will be approved for the BA training. The conference program will designate which sessions are approved for BAs. Each BA is expected to attend approved sessions equivalent to six (6) hours. A BA will receive 1.5 hours credit for the job-alike session during Induction Training which will count towards the total six (6) required hours. All general sessions are included in the approved choices.

All BAs are required to attend a three (3) hour training on TESS and LEADS Law and Process which covers teacher and administrator evaluation requirements of law, rules, and processes for implementation. This training will be offered as a session during the AAEA Conference on August 4 and 5 and will also count towards the required six (6) AAEA session hours. This training will also be offered on August 6 and 7 at the Holiday Inn West in Little Rock. (See the attached calendar.)

The AAEA Summer Conference registration fee is complimentary for BAs. Once a BA registers for Induction Training, he or she will automatically be registered for the AAEA Summer Conference. There will be no on-site registration for BA Induction Training or Mentor Training. The registration deadline for BA Induction or BA Mentor Training is July 24, 2015. This deadline will be adhered to. Lunch is included for August 3 and 4 with the registration for the conference. Other costs for lodging, additional meals, and mileage are the administrator’s responsibility.
