The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 required the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to create professional standards for State and Local School nutrition program personnel. The Guide to Professional Standards for School Nutrition Programs was released in January 2016. This guide will provide information and resources for implementing the Professional Standards for school district level child nutrition personnel. The Guide to Professional Standards for School Nutrition Programs is posted at http://www.fns.usda.gov/guide-professional-standards-school-nutrition-programs and on the Child Nutrition web page under the Guidance section.
The Guide contains information for child nutrition directors, managers, and staff related to job categories, training standards, including record keeping requirements, and, of significant importance to school district administration, hiring standards for new child nutrition program directors at the school district level. Additionally, the Guide contains hiring and training standards for State Agency Child Nutrition Directors.
The USDA Child Nutrition Professional Standards became effective July 1, 2015, and will be monitored as part of the Administrative Review by Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) Child Nutrition Unit (CNU) staff.
