Professional Development Submission and Management System (PDSAM)

 The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) will launch a new version of the Professional Development Submission and Management System (PDSAM) website in April 2016.  PDSAM serves two primary functions: K-12 educators and school board members can utilize the website to search for ADE-approved professional development providers and programs, by provider name, title of event, event type, location, description of event, or ADE ID code, and PDSAM serves as an approval system for K-12 professional development providers and school board trainers.  The following information concerns the two types of application processes:

Professional Development Approvals (K-12)

Each professional development provider and program must be approved by the ADE before Arkansas educators can attend the session and earn credit for attendance toward the minimum annual professional development requirement.

To obtain approval as an ADE-approved professional development provider, an applicant must establish an account and submit an application at least thirty (30) days before a session is to be offered, via the Arkansas PDSAM portal.  An approval code for professional development provided to licensed educators is valid for one (1) fiscal year.

The following entities and agencies are not required to obtain approval in order to offer programs to licensed educators: 

  • an Arkansas public school district that provides a professional development program solely to its own personnel;
  • an education service cooperative that provides professional development to districts/schools;
  • the Arkansas Department of Education;
  • the Arkansas Department of Career Education; and
  • the Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education.

Arkansas School Board Member Training Approvals

According to the ADE Rules Governing Required Training for Arkansas School Board Members, any instruction provided directly to board members by either an Arkansas institution of higher learning, the ADE, or the Arkansas School Boards Association, that meets the training content requirements outlined in the rules, does not require pre-approval by the ADE.  All others who wish to provide approved training for members of Arkansas school boards shall obtain approval to become an ADE-approved professional development provider, by establishing an account and submitting applications at least thirty (30) days ahead of time via the Arkansas PDSAM portal.  An approval code for Arkansas school board training is valid for one (1) calendar year.
