Memo Text

In 2015, ACT 989 of the 90th General Assembly expanded the Arkansas College and Career Readiness Planning Program to allow public schools to use the ACT Aspire assessment as an alternative to Plan or PSAT at grade 10.

Currently, each district in Arkansas is required to administer ACT Aspire at grade 10.  The ADE has requested approval from the State Board to continue providing districts the option to also administer PSAT/NMSQT at grade 10 using at-risk funding as allowed by Act 989.

PSAT/NMSQT provides information through AP Potential that helps schools identify students who show potential to be successful in AP coursework including student populations who may be underrepresented. It also provides access to college planning resources and, because of the fall administration, allows opportunity for students and counselors to engage in course selection discussions.

Districts that elect to administer PSAT/NMSQT under this approval will agree to administer the test to all students in grade 10, with allowable accommodations and at no cost to the student. The PSAT/NMSQT will be administered on a school day, Wednesday, October 19, 2016.

The assessment will be funded by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE).   The ADE is requesting that the Superintendent in each school district or charter school with grade 10 complete a short survey indicating whether they will elect to administer PSAT/NMSQT in the 2016-2017 school year.  The survey may be accessed at the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1GoEZNXtSxzLLpCqRdLldMv1w1BUhGm8h2eTCPzoIS8U/viewform?usp=send_form.  Please complete the survey by May 13, 2016.  Districts or charter schools that do not reply by May 13 will not be included in the contract for the 2016 PSAT/NMSQT administration, if approved.

The ADE has scheduled an informational webinar to discuss the benefits of administering the PSAT/NMSQT.  The webinar is scheduled for April 28, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.  School personnel are encouraged to attend the webinar as a team.  No registration is required.  You may access the webinar at: http://ardoe.adobeconnect.com/assessment/.
