In an effort to support and strengthen relationships with local school districts, members of the Arkansas General Assembly will participate in the Take Your Legislator to School Month in September.
During the 2015 Regular Session, the Arkansas General Assembly passed HCR1008, a resolution designating September as the annual Take Your Legislator to School Month. This bipartisan initiative was motivated by a need for members of the General Assembly to fully understand the issues and challenges facing public schools, as well as learn about educators’ many innovative educational programs and solutions.
HCR1008 encourages public school districts to plan special events with their local legislators. Examples include the following:
- Showcasing district/school innovative solutions and successes.
- Organizing faculty and staff to discuss possible solutions for issues and challenges.
- Scheduling guided tours of the district campus and classrooms and providing opportunities for legislators to speak to students.
- Sponsoring a panel discussion with administrators, teachers and students to address issues facing the school.
