ATTENTION: CHILD NUTRITION DIRECTORS, WELLNESS COMMITTEES

 

The Arkansas Department of Education Child Nutrition Unit has developed and identified several tools for schools to use as they are learning about and incorporating the updated Arkansas Nutrition Standards, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Final Rule for Smart Snacks regulations, and USDA Final Rule for Wellness Policies.

Arkansas Child Nutrition Resources:

Healthy Schools Compliance Model (attached) - a two-page summary of policies, procedures, and plans related to the Arkansas Rules Governing Nutrition, Physical Activity, and BMI and the federal Smart Snacks requirements.  Page two addresses providing and selling snacks with a checklist of standards.

Questions and Answers Related to Smart Snacks in Arkansas Schools (attached) - addresses topics specific to the Arkansas schools including kindergarten snacks, 9 special event days, and testing days. 

Smart Snacks in Arkansas Schools (attached) – a slide presentation with notes that may be used to conduct workshops for staff/teachers/parents/wellness committees.  The materials may also be distributed electronically or in print.
