ATTENTION:  CO-OP DIRECTORS, CHILD NUTRITION DIRECTORS, CHILD NUTRITION MANAGERS

Each year, by an act of Congress, National School Lunch Week (NSLW) is set for the first full week in October.  Mark your calendars for October 9-13, 2017.  The theme this year is “School Lunch: Recipes for Success."  The theme is designed to help Child Nutrition Directors share their stories, including the ‘secret ingredients’ used for the success of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) within their districts.

The NSLP serves more than 30 million students nationwide each year.  This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate and share with school administrators, school board members, faculty, students, district employees, and community members the many important aspects of the National School Lunch Program.  Recognizing NSLW in your district or your cafeterias helps you:

  • Increase student participation;
  • Spread the message to parents that you’re serving healthy, delicious lunches at school;
  • Earn media coverage from local papers, TV stations, and bloggers; and
  • Connect with teachers and administrators at your school or in your district to spread the word that school meals are healthy

If the designated dates do not work for your district you can celebrate NSLW at any time!  The week before or the week after is up to you.
