Memo Text

On August 30, 2017, the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) released a Commissioner's Memo on Arkansas and Facebook TechStart Partnership Expansion - Virtual Reality Kit Allocation and Distribution Information (COM-18-019), which is available at http://adecm.arkansas.gov/ViewApprovedMemo.aspx?Id=3363

This Commissioner’s Memo is intended to provide clarification and additional information.

All schools, including “year 1” schools that received a kit in the spring of 2017 and “year 2” schools that will receive a kit under the expansion program this fall, that wish to participate in any TechStart promotions and/or contests, must execute both the updated “TechStart School Participation Agreement” found at http://bit.ly/2xyPaXU and page five (5) of the Facebook “Program Terms” attached to the Agreement as “Appendix A.” This update is due to changes within the TechStart Program and issues within the original agreement that have been addressed.

Copies of the signed documents should be e-mailed to Arkansas Public School Resource Center (APSRC) at jketcham@apsrc.net or faxed to 501-492-4305 by 4:00p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017.

Once APSRC has received the two signed documents and verified the school’s eligibility, APSRC will notify the local partner of the school’s eligibility.

Year 1 schools are eligible to receive the announced additional equipment and eligible to participate in official TechStart promotions and contests only after APSRC has received and certified the updated agreement. Year 1 schools that choose not to execute an updated agreement do not have to return the equipment already delivered.

Year 2 schools are eligible to receive the donated equipment and eligible to participate in official TechStart promotions and contests only after APSRC has received and certified the updated agreement and a certified local training partner affirms that at least two representatives from the school have been properly trained in the setup and use of the kit. These trainings will be offered through APSRC and all Arkansas Education Service Cooperatives beginning in late October. Schools that are members of the APSRC network should contact jketcham@apsrc.net for information on training. Schools that will use an Arkansas Education Service Cooperative for training should monitor ESCWorks for scheduled training days.

Distribution of the kits should begin in early October 2017 and should be concluded by April 30, 2018.

The list of eligible Year 1 schools, Year 2 schools, and local training partners can be accessed at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1egI3fSgx6D-7f7BND4ZHSSPu1b1aZtlOwhmWY1Gx5eQ
