Memo Text

Updated Draft school reports containing the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) School Index information were posted on Monday, January 29, 2018, on the website https://adedata.arkansas.gov/arc.  The draft ESSA reports are available for school districts using Triand passwords on the private tab “2017 ESSA School Index & ESEA Reports”.  Redacted versions of these reports will be available to the public before the end of April.

Also, the 2017 DRAFT Business Rules for Calculating the ESSA School Index Scores were updated on Monday, January 29, 2018.  This document is available on the ADE website at http://www.arkansased.gov/divisions/public-school-accountability/every-student-succeeds-act-essa/informational-documents .

School personnel are encouraged to continue to review the draft school reports and the draft business rules and alert ADE to any issues.  We appreciate the feedback received and the updated documents reflect that information.

The ESSA School Index is a calculation comprised of multiple indicators that include: achievement, growth, graduation rate, English Learner progress in English Language Proficiency, and School Quality/Student Success indicators for each grade span.  Assigning schools to grade spans K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 accommodates differences in the grade levels served as well as ensuring comparability across schools.  The required indicators and some of the School Quality/Student Success indicators included in the ESSA School Index vary slightly by grade span. The reports contain information from the 2016-2017 school year statewide assessments, the 2015-2016 four-year and five-year adjusted cohort graduation rates, and 2016-2017 School Quality and Student Success Indicators.

Informational documents explaining the ESSA School Index and components are posted on the Arkansas Department of Education website at http://www.arkansased.gov/divisions/public-school-accountability/every-student-succeeds-act-essa.
