Coordinated School Health (CSH)

2nd Quarter Meeting Announcement

Monitoring and Avoiding Risk Behaviors in School

The Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), in conjunction with the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) is pleased to announce the Statewide Coordinated School Health (CSH) 2nd Quarter meeting, to be held Wednesday, November 6, 2019.  This CSH meeting will focus on e-cigarette use among teens, the Arkansas Prevention Needs Assessment, and the G.U.I.D.E. for Life Personal Competencies.

The DESE, in partnership with the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH), provides professional development and resources to assist school personnel with addressing the needs of the whole child in the school setting. The Coordinated School Health Program and activities are supported with funding provided to the ADE through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention RFA-DP18-1801 Improving Student Health and Academic Achievement through Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Management of Chronic Disease grant funding. This program is designed to develop the capacity for school personnel to utilize a team approach to address today’s most relevant public health issues inhibiting academic achievement.

The CSH 2nd Quarter meeting will highlight resources covering:

  • The Arkansas Prevention Needs Assessment and how to utilize the results

  • Health and Safety Hazards of E-Cigarettes

  • Student perspective of e-cigarette use

  • Brief overview of the new Arkansas Health Standards

  • Introduction to G.U.I.D.E for Life

Participants may expect to gain information and resources from content experts. The CSH meeting is open to all Arkansas public school district personnel. District wellness committee chairs are strongly encouraged to attend.
