Memo Text

The State Board of Education approved the 2019 Arkansas K-12 Library Media Standards on October 10, 2019.  The standards may be found at the following link:

http://dese.ade.arkansas.gov/divisions/learning-services/curriculum-support/humanities/library-media-services/library-media-services-standards-and-courses

All school districts are given the 2020-2021 school year to develop curriculum based on the new standards with full implementation expected in 2021-2022.  Grade level benchmark documents designed to aid in curriculum development are also available at the link above.

Professional development on the new standards will be offered at all educational service cooperatives during the summer of 2020.  More details about the professional development offerings will be released after the first of the year.

The State Board of Education also approved the one-semester Research Course for Grades 9-12 designed to be taught as a stand-alone course, an embedded course, or an online course.

Questions regarding the new standards or the research course may be directed to Cassandra Barnett, Program Advisor for School Libraries, at Cassandra.barnett@arkansas.gov or 501-682-6576.
