The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Data & Research Office at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in conjunction with Division of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE), Special Education Unit, will host the 2020 Disproportionality Institute on February 4 and 5, 2020 at the Holiday Inn Airport Conference Center.
The Institute is open to all districts. Districts identified for significant disproportionality are required to attend and are encouraged to bring their team. Identified districts were notified by letter the week of December 12, 2019.
Program: On Day 1 of the institute, we welcome Mr. Ashanti Branch as our guest speaker. Mr. Branch was born and raised in Oakland, California, where he studied Civil Engineering and worked as a construction project manager. After tutoring struggling students and realizing his true passion was teaching, Mr. Branch changed careers. In 2004, as a first-year teacher, Mr. Branch started the Ever Forward Club to provide a support group for African American and Latino males who were not achieving to their potential. The Ever Forward Club now serves both young men and women and has assisted 100% of its members to graduate from high school, with 93% of those individuals going on to attend college. Mr. Branch is on a mission to change the way students interact with their education and the way schools interact with students!
Day 2 activities will focus on the NEW Comprehensive Coordinated Early Intervening Services application and tools.
Each day will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at approximately 3:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
The registration fee is $100.00 per person. Registration is now open and closes on January 31, 2020.
