The purpose of this memo is to provide information about district participation in the BX³ (Behavior eXtreme 3 – Training, Coaching, Empowering) pilot designed to build local capacity in working effectively with students with challenging behaviors. District teams will be trained, coached, and empowered by the state's Behavior Support Specialist (BSS) team.
Participation in this pilot project will provide the district with professional development and coaching opportunities around effective supports for tier II and tier III behaviors that have been aligned to the Arkansas State Systemic Improvement Plan. District teams will receive technical assistance from the Behavior Support Specialists, as part of a multi-year initiative, to build sustainable programming and legally defensible processes for Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP). Personalized coaching for district teams through a collaborative approach based on principles of Applied Behavior Analysis will be a foundational part of BS³.
This pilot project will increase the knowledge-base and capacity of educators to improve the outcomes of students with challenging behaviors, as well as the confidence of educators working with students with special needs in both general education and special education settings.
Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, the BSS team will be accepting only CIRCUIT referrals for assistance with Tier III behaviors and Autism Identification. Assistance for Autism Programming and Tier II behaviors will be addressed through Tier II trainings offered by the BSS team at all Co-ops around the state. Coaching will be available only through the Pilot Project.
Additional information can be found in the attached BSS Pilot Project Letter. Districts that wish to participate in the BX³ pilot for the 2018-2019 school year should submit an application (linked below) no later than July 15, 2018.
